Gap Last is not the last gap

If the address you used put those words in the other order, you still landed in the right place. Last Gap is a claim: the leftover you named is the final one. Gap Last is the method that refuses that claim until the evidence can bear it.

The name is the warning, said in one breath. Naming a leftover question is not the same as knowing you have the last one. A later trace can move the question. Treating the gap you named as closed, when you do not yet know enough to say so, is the same thin move the method exists to stop.

Someone will build the next warning system, the next reply, the next fix on whatever gets treated as settled. A gap closed too soon aims those at the wrong object, and adds the harm of believing the question is finished.

Langtang Lirung is the receipt from the week that named the method. Wednesday's question was why the ice detached. Thursday's images moved the object to rock. The first leftover was retired. It was not answered, and it was not the last question. Why that rock failed is still open.

The fill is not the bound is the same refusal in a silence between people. Naming one uncertainty does not mean you have found every relevant unknown. It means you can see which gap you are trying to fill. "Are they pulling away?" is a real question. Asking it does not make "yes" the last word.

What a closed gap does

A thin cause and a premature last gap fail the same way. Both write an explanation down before the question can hold it. The next move follows whatever was written. On a mountain, that move is a warning system or a wall. In a thread that went cold, it is an accusation, a matching silence, or a boundary set for a motive nobody has established.

Remainder is a result. "We may never know the last increment" is allowed. What is not allowed is calling the gap you can see today the last one, and then building as if nothing later could move it.

The order stays the same. Say what happened, and how sure you are. Use what is already known, fully. Name what is still unknown, as a question. Only then propose a cause, and only for that question. When better evidence arrives, let the question move.
